The Journey of Hope 2009
Saturday, 17 October 2009

Image15 Survivors, 1 journey, 1 goal, bringing hope.

This year’s tag line for the Clicks Journey of Hope accentuates Clicks’ commitment to the cancer cause. This is further reinforced by the fact that Clicks’ Human Resources executive, Jessie Whitehouse will be among the 15 courageous women that will embark on the ride from Cape Town to Johannesburg in October 2009. These women will not only spread the message of early detection of breast cancer, but they will also raise funds to sponsor reconstructive surgery for another 12 disadvantaged women.

This year Clicks is the main sponsor of the Journey of Hope. The Clicks Foundation has donated R350 000 to the cause this year with a further donation committed to the cause in 2010. The Journey of Hope team has planned many exciting events before the main ride including a Moonlight breast cancer walk in George, mini-rides in Pretoria and the Lowveld culminating in the Clicks Pink Day launch at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town.

The Journey of Hope Breast Cancer Awareness Ride has a powerful calling to spread a message of hope across South Africa. This campaign brings with it a message of hope and encouragement in an optimistic, positive and unique manner through the courage and the drive of 15 women, all breast cancer survivors, who will continue to traverse the county on motorcycles to allay the myths surrounding breast cancer. The 2009 ride is already in the launch phase with the ride taking place in October 2009.

In 2008, Clicks sponsored Journey of Hope with R100 000 as an associate sponsor of the event. In 2009, Clicks is the naming sponsor of this heart-warming yet challenging event in keeping with its focus on women’s health and wellbeing. The Clicks Foundation has pledged R350 000 in 2009 with further funding committed for 2010.

Objectives of the journey:
• To unite in our passion for creating awareness
• Reach out to South Africans in an effective manner
• Attend to selected major cities and outlying areas in South Africa
• Assist in awareness through breast cancer support groups, and HOG Chapters (Harley Owners Groups)
• Organise events for fundraising purposes to be able to give 12 women the chance to change their lives by undergoing breast reconstruction surgery
• Spreading the message that breast cancer can be beaten if detected early enough
